My 12 week stint at ABC Inc. started with a big bang. On day one university recruitment team conducted intern orientation. The agenda of the orientation was to complete paperwork, give a brief introduction to company history and business, walkthrough of internship program and various activities that were planned for us over the summer. ABC Inc. is the American-based parent company to several global online travel brands We were informed that every week, there will be breakfast/lunch meet-and-greet sessions with senior leadership of the company to acquaint us with the company vision and direction. University recruitment team showered us with many company swags which was a pleasant surprise considering this was just my first day. I was introduced to my manager and mentor; whom I knew from my interview rounds.

Following orientation, respective managers took their interns for lunch. I spent rest of the day with my manager. He explained me the organizational structure of our department and the project I’ll be working on. Our mission is to align IT capabilities with business goals and improve agility and flexibility of application engineering and critical development teams of ABC. Engineering has four verticals; platform, storage, development and monitoring. My team, Engineering Products cuts through these four verticals and manages three main functions:

1. Product Management

2. Ownership of Requirements

3. Portfolio Management

In first 7 weeks of my internships, I have been exposed to first two functions. For my internship project, I’m driving LB Service for private cloud space. My roles and responsibilities include:

• Relationship management with stakeholders

• Requirement gathering and ownership

• Fit gap analysis to identify business opportunities

• Business case and feature set definition

• Product management and project tracking

• Liaison between customers, development teams and external partners
