WILDFIRE

A smoker takes one last puff of a cigarette and tosses it out of the car window, unaware that a chain of extremely powerful and devastating events has begun. As the cigarette falls to the ground it is whisked to the side of the road by air currents created from the speeding car. Sparks twist and scatter in the wind as the cigarette comes to rest on a pile of dry tinder that immediately begins to smolder. The smoldering pile of dried leaves, twigs and grass emits a smooth stream of silvery white smoke that begins to waft carelessly toward the light blue sky. The heat from the glowing embers rapidly spreads to other dried kindling, and the smoke becomes increasingly thick. The fire desperately seeks fuel from which to grow.

Another car whizzes by, creating a strong gust of wind that fans the glowing fragments igniting them into a twinkling flicker of light with incandescent shades of red, orange, and yellow. The flames begin to leap into the air as if they are chasing the meandering wisps of grayish smoke into oblivion. Like bees in a field of flowers, the flames hop aimlessly from piles of dried leaves to small clumps of parched grass, inviting them to become a part of this swiftly growing monster named “wild fire.” The grumbling roar of the fire grows, echoing to a menacing crescendo. The fire charges the shrubs and under brush with calculated precision and engulfs everything in its path at alarming speed. The fire ravenously devours the various tree and plant life with a vengeance. The sounds of trees crackling and popping are surrounded by the ominous roar of the fire’s awesome power.
