Reasons for the invasion of Persian territory by Alexander

According to O’Brien (1994), considered as one of the great military intellects of all times is Alexander III the great; the king of Macedonia. He conquered the Persian Gulf and enthused many kings who later defeated and conquered other territories, the likes of whom are Caesar, Romans Pompey and Napoleon among other conquers. Born in 356 BC Alexander III the great was the heir of Philip II Who was the king of Macedonia and had been inspired by his father during his childhood days as he witnessed him change his country into one enormous power that saw its military conquer many other territories thus being declared as one of the great military powers of the times (O’Brien, 1994). Aristotle had been hired as a personal tutor of Alexander by his father Philip and therefore he had to impact him with training on literature and oratory works for a period of three years that enabled him to acquire great passion in such disciplines as philosophy, science ands medicine. This essay is aimed at discussing the reasons that made Alexander the great to lead his great army to invade the Persian territory.

All the knowledge that was passed on to Alexander the great by Aristotle were to become very crucial in his life and especially after his father with the help of the great Macedonian army invaded and defeated Thrace in 340 BC when Philip was only sixteen years old. At the same age Philip was left to rule Macedonia while his father was struggling to conquer Thrace since Philip had bestowed a lot of hope and power in him (Rohrabacher, 2002). During this time of invasion of Thrace by the Macedonian army, the Thracian tribe bordering Macedonia to the North Eastern Boarder offered a lot of rebellion endangering the peace of Macedonians. Alexander was therefore to gather his army in order to defend his country from intruders who were mostly the Maedi tribe of the Thracian territory. At last he managed to invade and capture their opponents afterwards he renamed it so as to mimic his name; it was thus referred to as Alexandropoulos.
