Before the kingdoms, Egypt was town lands. King Menes was the founder of unifying Egypt and the Founder of the 1st Dynasty. Egypt was divided by three kingdoms: Old, Middle and New. The Old Kingdom (Dynasties 3-6 2649-2150 B.C.) known as the “ Pyramid Age” consisted of the absolute power of the Pharaohs as well massive pyramids being built. Each Pharaoh built their own tombs for their “ divine “ afterlife but to also serve as a monument. During the third dynasty, the pharaoh Djoser had the first known pyramid built called the “ Step Pyramid”. The “ Step Pyramid” was built with a fine white Tura limestone and believed to be “rising to a height of about 60 meters (197 feet), in six steps and containing some 330,400 cubic meters (11,668,000 cubic feet).” The Step Pyramid was seen as complex and has reflected the different mentally of the Egyptians during that time period.

Ancient Egypt was located next to the Nile Valley, north of Africa. The Nile is the longest river, which cuts through the Sahara desert to the Mediterranean Sea. The Egyptians life revolved around the Nile and its fertile lands and has played a major role in the development of the civilization of Egypt, by providing a numerous amount of resources like fertile lands for crops, fish and water. Other then providing an agriculture approach, the Nile provided an irrigation system and a trade system. Even though the Nile provides a substantial amount of resources and benefits towards the Egyptian civilization it has caused many problems. Annually the Nile River floods causing crops to be destroyed which is devastating to the Egyptians because their main source of food has been affected causing them to face famine. To keep track of when they should plant their crops, the Egyptians created a calendar following the annual flooding allowing them to take advantage of the floods The Nile River flows north while the winds blow south, which allows the Egyptian to have some sort of
