Throughout elementary school, middle school, and even in high school, it has never occurred to me that poetry can be such a beautiful piece of writing. I always thought that poetry was just another form of a cute, little, short, fun story or it was just an assignment that the teacher made us do. Now that I am in college and we’re doing this poetry assignment, it hit me like lightening that poetry is so much than what meets the eye and I would have never expected poetry to be this intriguing. When this poetry presentation was introduced, I was a bit skeptical about working in a group. I never really liked the idea of group work for several reasons, but it’s mainly because I just don’t like relying on other people. As skeptical as I was, I knew that working in a group wasn’t gonna kill me. I can’t choose to be not work in a group because life doesn’t work that way and I’m not complaining or anything, but I guess what I’m trying to say is, that for this particular assignment, working in a group wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

In this assignment, everyone in my group brought in at least two poems. As stubborn as I am, I actually only considered one poem and that poem was mine. I also considered one of Peter’s poems too, but one of his poems was written by Langston Hughes and you said we weren’t allowed to have a poem written by him. The second poem I brought in was by Robert Frost and you said we weren’t allowed to use his poems either, so in the end, the only poem I really wanted to do was the poem that we’re doing right now. I didn’t really like any of Rob’s poems just because the only poem that was on my mind was my poem. In the nicest way possible, his poems were good but I just wasn’t really “feeling” his poems I guess, but then again it was more of a gut feeling to go with my poem instead.
