Rationale of Project

This project is revolving around the nursery school in which I am working and it has employed internet technology in teaching for children to learn stories on the interactive board to watch. The children have no physical environment for reading books within the class. Therefore, I decided to develop and create a book corner within the classroom for providing complete access to children throughout the day. In the book corner, I would keep puppets for children to role play and act roles from stories they read. There will also be a small table with chairs along with paper and pen so that children could enhance their writing skills and recreate stories on their own. I would also provide bean bags for children to feel comfortable while reading books.

It is noted that the reading habits in children develop in their early ages. For this reason, children in nursery and early ages are introduced to literature with the support of kindergarten readiness and promotion of early literacy to support love of reading and language. This project is based on the development of a book corner in a nursery class as it acts as a different area of a classroom having a wide range of books, picture books, early readers, and comfortable seating arrangements. Therefore, creation of a book corner in a nursery class can promote critical thinking skills while enhancing the creative and social development.

In order to provide a wide range of educational books within a preschool library corner, early literacy skills are being promoted among children. The alphabet books within the corner can help children to learn the names of letters along with their sounds. Counting books can help children to learn ways of counting while recognising numbers. The rhyming books in the book corner can increase phonological awareness among children. It is obvious that this project can provide a place for exposure to group reading activities.
