Bestie Case

In Chapter 2, the beastie is mentioned, however, by that time, the boys weren’t that concern about the beastie as they think it is unreal, though fear has been aroused. But in Chapter 3, the situation has become more intense, “‘As if,’ said Simon, ‘the beastie, the beastie or the snake-thing, was real. Remember?” The boys are starting to be convinced and believe that there is actually a beastie on the island. From here, the role of nature is creating a threatening sense and drives fear of the boys.

Apart from creating atmosphere and representing the feelings of the boys-- The weather and the time in "Lord of the Flies" play a major role in representing the attitudes, behavior and mood of the boys throughout the novel, affecting the readers’ response.

The weather foreshadows evil. At the beginning of the story, the boys crash on the island during a storm, “That storm dragged it out to sea.” From here, the role of nature is seen quite destructive and powerful as it causes such catastrophe.

“The first rhythm that they became used to was the slow swing from dawn to quick dusk.
