‘HOW MY PERCEPTION ABOUT HR AS A FIELD OF MANAGEMENT CHANGED AFTER GOING THROUGH THIS COURSE?’

I am an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering fresher. The field of Human Resources is completely new to me and the novelty has generated a lot of interest in the subject. The course of Fundamentals of Human Resource Management helped me understand how HR policies and practices impact the internal and the external conditions of a company.

The reason why I chose Human Resources as my field was because I felt the skills I had developed could match closely with this field. As a Placement Co-ordinator in my final year engineering, I met a lot of HR Professionals who came for recruitment. My knowledge about HR was limited only to this. However, after taking up this course, I realised that the work of an HR manager is much more than just recruitment.

Through this course, I realised that HRM is a vast field and it includes the stakeholders and HR managers along with internal external situational factors. Stakeholders’ interests may depend on internal factors like working conditions. They may also depend on external factors like Technology advancements, Laws, and economy of the nation. A HR manager has to take all of these factors into account while forming HR policies. The nature of these HR policies determines the performance of the company. This course helped me understand that a good HR policy can lead to sharp rise in company profits. I found Strategic HRM to be one of the most interesting topics.

Challenges faced by HR Professionals are numerous and one must possess analytical and logical skills to face such challenges. HR Analytics is another major field. An HR manager must be committed to increase the competence of the workforce by striving hard to achieve congruence between management and employees. This course has laid down a solid foundation for my two year PGDHRM course.
