Riordan Manufacturing is a globally renowned plastic manufacturer, with almost 550 employees all over the world. Currently, they approximately earn $46 million every year. The manufacturing firm is owned by the Riordan Industries that gather a revenue of more than $1 billion. One of the changes that Riordan Manufacturing made in their operations is the incorporation of a Service Request order, SR-rm-04 to aid them in their analysis and maintenance of their HR system. This is one of the ways that shows that the company always hopes for innovations for their Human Resource Information System. With this Service request, the company asked my team to analyze their HR System, and identify different tools that the company can adopt for their Human resource Information system. With that, we will begin this Service request by following the typical Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), the first step is to the analysis stage.

        Riordan Manufacturing named under its founder Dr. Riordan, a chemistry professor. He started the business by acquiring various patents regarding polymer processing, and turning them into high tensile strength plastic substrates (Riordan Manufacturing, 2010). Company operations officially started in 1991, and a year after, it was officially named Riordan Manufacturing Incorporated. Since then, the company started to grow as the major plastic manufacturer for plastic injection molding (Riordan Manufacturing, 2010). Currently, the firm has several outlets all over the world: Albany, Georgia; Pontiac, Michigan; San Jose, California; and Hangzhou, China. Each of these locations has their own specialty products. Beverage containers are produced in Georgia, custom carton plastic parts are from Michigan, and lastly, the plastic parts of fans are produced in China. Moreover, the company’s research team is based at San Jose. The main customers of the company are bottling companies, automotive parts manufacturers, appliance companies, aircraft manufacturers, and even the Department of Defense. Given a service request project, there are many phases that we have to go through. It usually begins with information gathering, conceptualizing a design method, establishing the scope, budget, duration, and other limitations of the project, and finally implementing the design method. With that, I will briefly discuss each of the steps needed to fulfill the Service Request

Design Methods and Information-Gathering Techniques

        Before I can conceptualize the design for the project, I first need to determine what the company members expect from the new Human Resource Information system, and how it will fit their current organization processes. This is a crucial step because the information that will be gathered will serve as the foundation of the design method. Moreover, it is also in this stage wherein the information requirements of the company will be determined. While the information requirements may not be necessarily expressed explicitly, the role of the analyst is to look beyond what is being stated, so that no information requirements are overlooked, to come up with the proper Systems Requirements Specifications (SRS). SRS is the prerequisite of almost any project to be started (Rajaraman, 2002).
