Domestic Violence

In one way or another we have seen or felt the issue of domestic violence. This national issue affects all around us. As human beings we feel the abuse that is surrounding us. Domestic violence or emotional abuse is a relationship of one person overpowering or trying to control the other. Partners may be married or not: heterosexual, gay, or lesbian. They can be living together, separated, or dating. There are different kinds of emotional abuse like name-calling, sexual abuse, or putting your partner in hold. There are many kinds of abuse. We need to be really careful in what we say and what we see. I am very frustrated with this issue. I can talk about myself, and I can say that I have passion in social issues. I live on an island and it worries me that we forget that we are equals. I have been somewhat affected by emotional abuse on my relationships.

This issue has affected the people in a way that they are afraid of talking about it. You see it so much that people do not see it as an issue. I think people are so used that they take it as it is. It does not matter the kind of relationship everything is the same. Relationships are supposed to be based on trust and we must find a partner that makes us grow in a healthy kind of matter. Sometimes we get the wrong idea of what or how we feel. If we do not have a healthy relationship why should we stay with that person? We have lost the touch of humanity and respect of the people. We have lost values and ethics.

Speaking of my island in the last months we have seen a numerous of victims of domestic violence, heterosexual, gay or lesbian victims. Some of them have ended on death itself. Women are really afraid of the consequences when they begin to fight for their rights, also because most of the time there are kids involve. But to make things more difficult, now we have to add that not only the heterosexual relationships are affected. We have to include the gay and lesbians. For some reason, this is harder to understand. I have been a witness of this kind of behavior. Lesbian relationships sometimes are bad. Women become obsessed with their partner. For them you are with everyone and is worse if you are bisexual. I do not want even to begin talking about that topic. You can be a victim of domestic violence if even your partner makes you put on hold you studies, work and even your life. The most shocking fact about this is that they do not see it as a problem.
