UNIT I

INTRODUCTION

        Nowadays, there are different businesses which are looking for ways of making a big impact to the society. Aligned with this is the fact that, every organization must be in vogue the diverse approach to carry through its business objectives in a cost effective manner, specifically the scarcity of natural resources to hand down the needs and demand of the consumers. Currently, the point of issue is the supply of toner inks seems to be in a high demand, especially in today’s curriculum of basic education has been elevated.

        We, as newcomers in this field, wanted to be drawn to discover things that can be useful in order to address the needs of social changes. Evidently, students, besides teachers and organizations who uses toner ink for duplicating copies of documents, lectures and suchlike constitutes the major portion of the consumers who invest more on toner for academic activities. However, they have no choice but to purchase those toner without knowing its additives which affects one’s wellness. This status-quo lead us in having an exceptional concept in producing a low-priced organic toner ink without taking for granted the value and excellence of the product. Prior to this, we should contemplate on determining the resources and the applicability and consider the ways to crop up with the product.

        In terms of agriculture and organic farming, Philippines is one of those that emerges and well-known for its abundant source vines and herbs which comes into variety of uses. One of those shoots is the Malabar Nightshade, commercially recognized as Alugbati, a succulent, branched, smooth, herbaceous vine, reaching a length of several meters. The stems are green or purplish. The leaves are somewhat fleshy, ovate or heart-shaped, 5-12 centimeters (cm) in length, stalked, tapering to a pointed tip and heart shape at the base. The spikes are axillary, solitary and 5-29 cm in length. The flowers are pink and about 4 millimeters (mm) long. The fruit is fleshy, stalkless, ovoid or nearly spherical, 5-6 mm in length and purple when mature. It is mainly cultivated throughout the tropical and temperate regions. In terms of its adaptability, the Basella Rubra is greatly recognized as herb for stews and extremely used for its coloring and dyeing capability. Due to its ornamental competencies, we come up in a way to make it further utilized by making the Alugbati as an essential raw material for us to produce a toner intended for photocopying purposes.
