Group Communication Competencies Summary

Most of the groups I have been part of have been because of sporting events.  I’ve played soccer most of my life, racquetball (and I enjoyed doubles quite a bit), football and cross country.  I used to golf but that wasn’t part of a team.  I loved the concept of team sports, how we would all pull together to achieve a win, or all take the loss personally if we would lose.  Either way, the teams I was on were tight knit and we all worked together.

Working as part of a team in a work environment is a new situation for me.  I’ve sat in team meetings where nothing was truly accomplished and I wondered why we even had the meeting.  I’ve also sat in some meetings that were extremely informative, I felt I was part of a successful group, and I asked questions that were relative and well thought out.  I was familiar with the topics, the applications being talked about, and how the changes to the applications would affect all of us.
