Now in this competitive world when industries are operating with minimum stocks and following just in time deliveries it is very important that the logistics flow/ cycle would go smoothly. And in this when there are global connections i.e. (products flowing from nation to nation) the role of container terminals play a very crucial role along with the shipping line as the container terminal would be the gateway of EXIM cargo.

Any mishandling or any inefficient operations in the container terminal would delay the logistics cycle. It is therefore very important for the shipping lines as well as the trade to choose a port/terminal as their gateway of operations.

Now as the volumes are growing day-by-day there are dedicated container terminal facilities in every port to handle this cargo and most of the ports stopped handling the bulk cargoes and are completely handling the containers. And the concept of containerization was increasing its presence in the global market. “Standing at a crucial interface of sea and inland transportation the significance of port and its production capabilities cannot be ignored” (ref of container port production and economic efficiency).

Now with these many advantages of container cargo over the traditional bulk cargo trade had been attracted a lot and; with conta (Goel, 2010)inerized cargo the container can be loaded at the factory door step and sealed so that the exporter could make sure that the cargo would reach safe to his end customer without contamination, i.e. improved cargo security is seen as an added benefit of containerization.

Carriers or shipping lines are also happy with this containerized cargo’s like there would be no difference in draft survey’s for change in cargo weight( cargo shortages), reduced paper work and risk of cargo contamination. Now with this containerized cargo transshipment point and transshipment hubs can be in place and effective use of vessel space can be
