This course is dedicated to understanding human behavior in organizational settings and how organizations can impact and support results-based management. There is no one best way of managing or organizing, but there are many combinations of ways that can inform and enhance our current and future organizational practices. The intent of this course is to provide an understanding of alternative managerial approaches to particular issues and to introduce ways to analyze the various organizational and social costs and benefits typically associated with any given approach. Through cases, experiential exercises, readings, teamwork, discussion, papers and presentations, you will be given the framework and tools needed to examine and experience results-based management.

Course Objectives

• Introduce you to three perspectives - the strategic design, the political, and the cultural - for understanding and analyzing organizations

• Provide opportunities to apply behavioral science concepts to managerial issues via case studies, team projects and class discussions

• Enable you to be informed, engaged participants in results-based management and organizational change

Course Standards

Attendance and Participation

Participation is one component of your final course grade. Attendance is required at all class sessions and active participation is expected of all students. If an unavoidable situation occurs and you will need to miss a class, notify me by email in advance of the class. Cell phones and all other electronics must be turned off during class time.
