If Mr. Dents gets charged with murder he might have to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the chance of parole. Mr. Dent could try and say that he was insane at the time of the incident which could lead to an alternative or intermediate sanction which may include counseling or some sort of medical help. Medical help and counseling for criminals today can either help them or even make them worse. If Mr. Dent does indeed get charged with murder and was insane at the time of the crime, he should spend a good part of his life in a rehabilitation center because clearly he had some mental problems because he was calling the police and a few others aliens.

Some people may feel that the defendant started calling people aliens, because he finally realized what he did was wrong. There really aren’t a lot of intermediate and alternative sanctions for a person that is being accused of murder. The criminal is either sentenced to life behind bars, the death sentence, or life in a rehabilitation center. The victim’s family may not agree with what the defendant may get for the crime.

The fact that Mr. Dent was pretty much planning this murder goes to show that he should be charged with first degree murder simply because of the evidence found at his residence. The defendant may not have the choice of a plea bargain or an alternative sanction because he clearly knew what he was doing when the crime happened and then he tried hiding the evidence.
