In the book, “Confucius Lives Next Door,” Reid draws his personal experience and that of his family in Tokyo including other parts of East Asia. He owns a written paean which he refers it to as “East Asia Social Miracle.” This describes the method in which the Asians put up the modern industrial societies which ha safe streets as well as good schools which were associated with stable families all over the world (Reid, 1999). He holds the perception that the Asians are civilized with the harmony which can be felt. He claims that these Asians have attained their social miracle which has basically been held by ethical values which are called Confucian values.

The Social Values

He is right when he talks of the values since as far as Japanese up to the extent of the Chinese and Koreans are quite concerned. Out of the few people who live in Asia, few individuals have not been struck by what the less reverent that seeks harmony to imperative cohesion. One is part of the society, therefore, should not do anything that is out of the line (Reid, 1999). Every individual is needed to abide by the norms of the society in unity.

Reid knew the Japanese quite well and studied the Asian practices for many years since his stay with the Japanese community nurtured him. He sent his kids to well performing Japanese schools and lived happily with his neighbors who had varying ideologies and culture. He is quick to note that the Japanese people liked to observe norms (Reid, 1999). His book is sympathetic to Baedeker to the Japanese culture and is filled with grace, humor and also knowledge and is worth reading. He depicts that most of the foreigners are able to mingle with the Japanese neighbors while staying in their country. This can be explained through the modern japan as well as the Confucian background which is very accurate and useful.

Relating American values and Japanese culture

He is sure that the people of America who are seen as an individualistic Me Generation can gain a lot of lessons from the thoughtful groups of Matsuda-san as well as other Japanese cultures from Reid’s neighborhood. The Japanese value the technological skills and also business but puts more focus on the social value more than the economic values (Reid, 1999). The description of the recent employee ceremony at NEC, which is an electronic giant in the Japanese corporation defines the way the Confucian culture adores the Japanese working environment.

Reid knows that the defense of the Japan tight security can be criticized due to its functions, but accepts that there is massive corruption in most Confucian societies, which makes the judgment for diversity unpredictable. He acknowledges that the racial homogeneity has a crucial role when it comes to Confucian harmony, but remains with his pleasant recollections of the life in Japan.

The negative effect of Japan.

The foreigners who stay at japan, which is a Confucian country is the same as an individual who has almost a total success in a perfect and well-managed club. The individual does not have to pay any membership fees and conformity is brought up with no need to inflict it. The norms for the social relationships has become a unifying factor for morality from which every individual must stick to. There is no way of doing away with the making comments on the current state of Japan economic drawbacks, which has derailed the whole nation (Reid, 1999). We can, therefore, deduce that the business facts are no impressive at all. There are about $ 800 billion bank loans which could turn to capitalism which is a very serious issue.
