1.0 Introduction

In today’s world, cars plays an important role in our daily life. These automobiles makes our everyday life easier and more convenient as it helps in travelling from one place to another without having to break a sweat. Besides being a necessity to human’s life, cars also changed to men’s pride to portray their class or social statuses in the society. This following report is an analysis on the different approaches of Performance Management between two well-known car manufacturers, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), the world’s highest car manufacturer and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), the world’s number 1 luxury car brand.  

TMC is a Japanese automotive manufacturing company. Having its headquarters in Aichi Japan (TMC, 2014), TMC was established in the year 1937. The founder of this manufacturing organization as well as the innovator is Sakichi Toyoda (TMC, 2014) who ventured into this automotive industry with the help of his son, Kiichiro Toyoda. At present, Toyota manufactures about 41 models (TMC, 2014) of vehicles which includes cars, MPVs, SUVs, Commercials and Hybrids. All Toyota vehicles is produced in 27 countries (TMC, 2014) such as Canada, USA, and Indonesia.  It is also one of large employers which has more than 300000 employees (TMC, 2014) at present. Vehicles, produced by Toyota is marketed in over 50 countries around the globe in all 7 continents. The current president of TMC is Mr. Akio Toyoda (Anon, 2014) who have been serving in the organization since June, 2009.  In 1980s, TMC established a new brand Lexus (Autoevolution, 2013) and launched in 1989. Lexus belongs to the global Toyota family. TMC leads and maintains its global number one position being world’s biggest car manufacturer. This company also has won numerous awards such as “2014 Best Overall Value” by IntelliChoice and “First No Cost Maintenance Plan” by Industry Accolack (Toyota, 2014). The company’s motto is “Moving Forward” (Toyota, 2014) which is adapted to acknowledge the company’s commitment towards continuous improvement.
