Aboriginals Case

There are many indigenous groups that have suffered from outlanders and their colonies. Land has been taken, and blood has been spilled. I chose to compare the Native Americans with Australia’s native population the Aboriginals. They are both groups that have had the face enormous trials, and I find historical similarities with the to very different groups.

They were both the first to inhabit the land that they were living on. The Australian aborigines migrated to Australia from Asia about 50 thousand years ago, while the Native Americans migrated from Siberia to America thousands of years ago. The Native Americans was a most peaceful people, and so were the aborigines. They both did not have any technology more advanced than what from the Stone Age. They had strong religious beliefs, their religions often evolved around respect, peace and preserving the nature.

The aborigines and the Native Americans also shared a common enemy, the “white” man, more specifically the British. They sat foot on both continents, and drove back the indigenous people from their territory. There is only that much a people can take of being pushed around, and both these natives tried valiantly to fight back, but when met by British cannons and muskets they were slaughtered. Their Stone Age technology was unmatched by the superior imperial technology of the British. They had little but no choice than to accept the invaders as their superiors.

The British did not only give the natives war, they also brought foreign animals and diseases with them. These animals did not belong in these new worlds, and therefor they had a negative impact on the ecosystem, waterholes and hunting grounds were disrupted and put out of balance. New diseases were introduced, and the indigenous people had no immunity against them, the diseases included were and was not limited to smallpox, influenza and whooping cough.
