Productivity and Profitability through Mobile Technology

With the high demand for access to business information and application, mobile technology has become mainstream for many firms.  Companies like Apple, Google, Android, and Blackberry use in the consumer market has created the business trend of many firms using mobile technology.  Websites like Shopkeep.com advertise point of sale (POS) systems using mobile that allow for more interactive customer experiences.  Through this employee productivity and profitability have increased.

“Mobile technology allows people to use company data and resources without being tied to a single location” (Strategic Growth Concepts, 2015).  This statement defines how the introduction of mobile technology has allowed us to work “on the go”.  The shift in using standard desktops and local area networks has made a tremendous mark on how we execute business models today.  From use of tablets to traveling with a company laptop we have seen this evolution firsthand.  Looking at the article from www.tech.co titled “How Mobile Technology Has Revolutionized Small Business”, where it states that on average smartphones and tablets save businesses around 2 billion hours each year.  This change along with the ability to reach more consumers has also increased profits as well.  

While enjoying the boom from increased profits and productivity many business have to also shift their collective concerns to data and network management.  Some concerns that have arose are data availability in the event of disconnection, how to manage links between clients and servers, and how to support constant availability.  Requiring more than just simple data synchronization today’s mobile application are ever present in many business models.  A weak connection or lack of connection can be the difference in a slow in productivity which can lead to a decreased profitability.  By creating new technology limiting factors like CPU power, battery life, and even bandwidth can help mitigate data loss due to disconnection and reduce the need to constant availability from support applications.

With the increased amount of mobile technology in the business place most employers are placing restrictions on end users to prevent unauthorized access to information, using the mobile system for personal means, and unauthorized reproduction of technology just to name a few.  Without these end user license agreements or EULAs many business would suffer from loss in profits as the temptation to sell company technology or information would be a fair practice.   According to The Linux Information Project restrictions and prohibitions are even used in some instances to restrict end users from criticizing software or its developers.  Prohibiting benchmark test and reviews also provide ways of controlling end users.
