Developing personal skills

Dps involves empowering individuals to take control over their own health. In regards to cancer, dps involves educating individuals on preventative measures of developing cancer. This can be achieved through education in p.e classes on correct nutritional practices. Students learn about eating food low in saturated fats, sugars and salts. This is important as these are all direct links to cancer. By educating an individual to reduce saturated fats, sugars and salts it will greatly reduce mortality and morbidity rates.

Free online learning also provides individuals education on the risk factors for developing cancer E.g. smoking. By providing this information, individuals become empowered to make positive decisions such as to quit smoking. This is important as smoking is a direct link to lung cancer. By reducing smoking rates, cancer mortality and morbidity rates will rapidly decrease.

Strengthening community action

SCA involves communities working together with governments and non government organizations to provide the greatest health opportunities. In regards to cancer, SCA involves educating the community on preventative measures of developing cancer. This can be achieved by planting trees to provide shade in local areas. Providing more shade will give the community more chance to stay out of the sun. This is important as long exposure to the sun is a direct link to melanoma. This in turn will reduce mortality and morbidity rates in regards to cancer.

Observing whether the law that prohibits the selling of tobacco products to youth

under 18 years of age is being followed and report to the council and local

police if not. This will greatly reduce the rate of underage smokers. This is important as smoking is a direct link to lung cancer. By reducing smoking rates, cancer mortality and morbidity rates will greatly decrease.

Create Supportive Environments

CSE involves creating supportive environments to give individuals and communities the greatest chance to achieve good health. Putting Public workout areas, playing and sporting fields, and other exercise opportunities throughout the communities will
