What are Green Solvents?

Green solvents are environmentally friendly solvents or biosolvents, which are derived from the processing of agricultural crops.

The use of petrochemical solvents is the key to the majority of chemical processes but not without severe implications on the environment. The Montreal Protocol identified the need to re-evaluate chemical processes with regard to their use of volatile organic compounds of VOCs and the impact theses VOCs has on the environment. Green solvents were developed as a more environmentally friendly alternative to petrochemical solvents.

What’s The problem ?

Our world is heavily industrialised and ,most processes in industry , from simple dyeing of fabrics in small scale industries to ore extraction and production of pharmaceutical drugs,

Every process requires some solvent medium for the process/reactions to be carried out .

And as it turns out, our chemical industry is heavily dependent on the petroleum industry for solvents , and let’s take a minute off topic to look at the fact that .The Earth is 4.6 billion years old .Let’s scale that to 46 years .We have been here for 4hours .Our Industrial revolution began 1 minute ago ,and in that time ,we destroyed half of the world’s forests.

Now, that is not something which can be called as Sustainable development

Same applies to the chemical industry where we mostly deal with fossil fuel solvents ,which are toxic to humans AND TO THE ENVIRONMENT. The petrochemical industry is the largest contributor to the global warming and other hazardous environmental problems , With the CO2 and other green house gases levels at what they currently are and The large piles of waste being deposited in our oceans which is a threat to the highly
