SWOT and Strategy Evaluation Paper

Child care over the years have grown into a very lucrative and needed business. Women in the workforce and single parent families have contributed to the growing need of the service. Individuals interested in opening a child care facility use a SWOT analysis prior to starting a childcare center. SWOT is an acronym for Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. The strength and weakness are internal factors of a company which will affect the success or failure of one company. Opportunities and Threats are external factors of the company and effects a company’s growth. The success or failure is determined by how customers receives products and services. Child care facilities face positive and negative situations all the time and a SWOT analysis will help a future owner decide if it is to their benefit when considering opening a child care facility.

Internal

Factors

  • Qualified staff
  • Providing outstanding customer service internally and externally.
  • Hours of operations
  • Early childhood curriculum
  • Giving back to the community
  • Educational tools to strengthen learning early on.

Weakness

  • Startup cost
  • Obtaining licenses and be in compliances with local, state and federal rules.
  • Daily and monthly cost to run the facility and maintenance of the facility.
  • Able to keep quailed and well trained employees.
  • Attracting new clients/customers to the facility.

External

Factors

Opportunities

  • Growth in the facility adding more customers and buildings.
  • Employer Sponsored Child Care Services
  • Nonstandard Hours
  • Assist low income families receiving government funding to ensure payment.
  • Revenue increase as people find jobs.

Threats

  • Competition from other child care facilities in the area.
  • Legal issues from suits being filed.
  • Negligent staff
  • Financial Issues
  • Business and Staff Licenses expire.
  • Staff Retention Rate

Opportunities

Opportunities to help improve the customer experience are employer sponsored child care services, non-standard hours, increase revenue as people find jobs and assisting low income families receiving government funding to ensure payment. If employers sponsor the child care facility this can help offset some of the cost of running the facility, maintenance, and routine services. “Some employers contract with child care companies for a fixed fee per child that may include subsidies from the employer, such as reduced onsite rent” (Child Care Services, 2016). The child care center will allow the employee to maintain a certain number of spots to help guarantee employee adequate child care services. Non-standard hours are a great opportunity for child care services and can provide an advantage over child care centers who operate on a 6am to 6pm or 9am to 1pm scheduled hours.
