Comparing Socrates view of a good leader to what constitutes a good leader today

Leadership can be defined as one's ability to get others to willingly follow. Every organization needs leaders at every level. A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal .To be a leader, a person must have a deep-rooted commitment to the goal that he will strive to achieve it even if nobody follows him. By comparing Socrates and today view of a good leader, there are many similarities and some differences.

The first similarity between Socrates and today's view is the communication factor. Socrates believed that leaders should always question others about their views to find out the truth, which means that leaders have to communicate with other people in order to find the information. Like Socrates, the nowadays' view mentions that good communication skill is very essential to being a strong leader. Another similarity is that based on Socrates and today's view of a good leader, the empathy factor is also mentioned. It means that when they speak to other individuals, leaders become part of the group and don't act superior to others. They should try to put themselves in the shoes of other people and understand the impact of their decisions will have on others. One more thing, Socrates believes that leaders don't blindly follow religion and don't automatically believe in the religious values that church leaders touted. Moreover, Socrates thinks that people can reach their potential and truly understand themselves by finding and questioning everything that appears to be common sense; similarly, today's view states that a good leader must be able to understand and balance diverse perspectives. We are all shaped by our environments and this affects the way we look at the world.
