Target was founded by George D. Dayton in 1902, according to Target’s Corporate Website. Before becoming the Target, we all know and love, Target was known as Dayton’s Dry Goods, as well as many other renames. The official Target opened its doors in 1962, with the iconic red and white color scheme and the well-known bullseye logo. Since then, Target has grown to become the second largest discount retailer in the United States of America.

Target’s store, as well as all of its marketing and advertisements, are red and white as the company’s official color scheme. When you walk into Target, you automatically notice all the red and white. I really like how they stuck with these colors and made it part of their brand. In fact, Target’s employees all wear red shirts, which displays uniformity. The layout of the store allows easy access to all products and departments. At the Hiram Super Target, there are two entrances, one on the supermarket side and one on the electronics side. From left to right on layout, you have your supermarket with all things food and drink related, including the standard Target Café and even a Starbucks. Then, you have home cleaning supplies and personal hygiene supplies. Next, there is women, men’s, and baby and kids clothing and footwear. In the next few aisles, there is arts and craft supplies, party supplies, office supplies, and then into the electronics and books, and outdoor supplies and furniture. Along the back aisle of the store (left to right), you have home furniture leading into kids toys and games and then into workout equipment and bikes. While all Targets have a little bit of diversity with layouts, they all contain the same departments.  Online, Target’s website is also using the standard color scheme of red and white. Target’s logo, the bullseye, is a big part of its identity. Target is one of my absolute favorite store. In particular, I enjoy the cleanliness and layout of the store, as well as the products they sell.

Target’s stores are designed to appeal to their stakeholders, as well as their customers through predicting customer needs, gaining customer loyalty, and providing customer service. Target is perceived as an upscale discount store due to its many upscale designer products exclusively sold from their stores. In fact, Target recently collaborated with Lilly Pulitzer to officer more affordable, but stylish clothing, furniture, and other things. Target has also come up with an exclusive Target Beauty Box. Many stores offer different beauty boxes, including Ipsy and Birchbox, and even Sephora, but Target’s is the most affordable while still being trendy. They also offer a “high-end” atmosphere for customers where they are treated well and taken care of. Target also offers exclusive events and discounts for loyal customers. Not only does target give great customer service in store, they offer online customer service as well.
