It is very important to eat healthy and get the correct amount of nutrients needed the body to function properly. I do believe many of us are either not educated properly about this subject or could care less about good health and the importance it brings. I must admit that I was not aware of all the nutrients needed to maintain the body, fiber was especially one of those nutrients that I found I needed at a very high capacity. I have now become more inquisitive in finding what I need to do in order to insure my health continues to stay good. In order to do this I begin to find out what each nutrient does to help keep the body functioning on a continuous basis. Fiber aids in preventing hunger because it does not completely digest in your stomach causing you to be a lot less hunger in between meals, it also regulates your blood sugar and (LDL) bad cholesterol in your blood stream. I found that fiber has been classified in two categories soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber has been known to increase the quality of diet and reduce cardio vascular disease, soluble fiber can be digested and it reduces some soluble fiber include food such as bean, oat bran, peas, citrus fruits and strawberries. Soluble fiber also acts as an aid in regulating the flow or waist material through the digestive tract. Insoluble cannot be digested in the human body its primary function is to collect water to increase stool bulk in the large intestine this promotes healthy bow movements thus reducing the chance of colon related problems to the body.

When determining the proper amount of fiber in a child, the age plus 5 rule is applied. This means a child 5 years or older should consume 10 grams of fiber a day and gradually increase as the child approaches adult hood when his or her calorie intake increases. I did not know of the importance of diet with fiber more importantly I did not know that there were two types of fiber that help the body digestive process and lower bad cholesterol.
