There is a social responsibility for United Health Care in the community is to help America get healthy.  This is a program that is available 365 days a year.  During the year round program when an employee makes a donation it is doubled to nearly all nonprofit organizations.    This can be anywhere from a child’s school to an animal welfare organization.  When employees track 30 hours of volunteer time in a calendar year, they automatically earn $500 to donate to the nonprofit organization of their choice.  On a daily basis people give their time and talents to help build healthier communities.  The group helps provide people with some necessary things that are needed.    United Healthcare combines the knowledge, experience and knowledge they have to improve health of the communities that we work and live in.  They are also dedicated investing in a future workforce that meets the needs of tomorrow and supporting initiatives that improve health quality and outcomes.  This work is done through their people and partners.  Societies can promote health in many other ways, such as though sanitation, pollution control, food and drug safety, health education just to name a few.  Lifestyles that we have play a major role in most of the illnesses.  Some of the factors are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, alcohol, tobacco use and obesity are a few.  This type of lifestyle is related to the rising cost of healthcare.  Since there are so many different methods that a society can use to take responsibility for health, and resources are scarce.  Although promoting access to healthcare is an important function of the government, society should consider placing a greater emphasis on other strategies.  The only problem is that most strategies are highly cost effective.    Cost effectiveness is always an important consideration in social policy but does become paramount when resources are extremely  scarce.  An example would be if a village must choose between building a reservoir for potable water and building a health clinic, the water may take precedence over the clinic, because more lives can be saved by ensuring access to clean water that by ensuring access to the health clinic.  Even people who emphasize personal responsibility would admit that society should promote environmental health and public health.  Individuals should care for their own health and help to pay for their own healthcare, and societies should promote health and help to finance the costs of health care.
