U.S. History should begin in 1607

Many people argue about what they believe is the true starting point in U.S. History. With that being said, I don't agree that U.S. History began in 1607. U.S. History to me began with the "development of the United States" from the "history" of early exploration through modern times.

Our country was being explored in the 1600's, which in 1607, some 100 men and boys sailing from England landed in present-day Virginia and founded Jamestown. On July 4, 1776, the 13 British colonies broke away from Great Britain and became 13 free and independent states or 13 little nations. From July 4, 1776 to March 3, 1789, there was no autonomous sovereign called the United States of America. There was a confederation (alliance like NATO is today) of states under the Articles of Confederation but it did not establish the United States as a nation-state entity (autonomous sovereign). The United States of America as an autonomous sovereign started on March 4, 1789. So the real birthday or start date of the United States is March 4, 1789. July 4, 1776 is Independence Day, which is correct and that is what you see on calendars.

What was the Civil War about? When you've identified that answer, when did this become a subject of concern for people? As always, write a nice, thorough essay and know that, because of time constraints, there can be no rewrites on this exam.

The story of this nation can be told from a dizzying array of perspectives, each of them offering a valid insight into how this country came to be. While many once referred to this nation as "melting pot" (a place where cultures from throughout the world are brought together and blended into one), the course of this country's history has shown clearly that is simply not true.
