Television Effect on Youth

Television is an invention that has changed society. Now a day, people abuse the use of television which in fact isolates people instead of bringing them together.

Before television was invented, families had to find other ways of entertaining themselves amongst one another such as: reading, playing games and many more. However, ever since television was invented, that has been their source of entertainment. The pleasure that people take into watching television therefore results into families becoming distant. Take me for example. About two years ago I developed an obsession with television. I’d wake up and watch TV for the whole day until it was time for bed; I was a couch potato.

Additionally, with the many different programs and channels that there are, it may be difficult for the whole family to decide on one particular show to watch. Therefore they would all go into separate rooms to watch the show in which they’d like to watch. There weren’t many programs and channels in the past, so it was easier for the family to agree on a show. Today, kids don’t want to watch the same thing as their parents. Instead, they isolate themselves from their parents and go watch their show alone.

Furthermore, television can have a way in hypnotizing people and making them forget about the real life. For instance, there are many shows imitating the lives of teenagers that are involved with drugs, alcohol, and partying. Some people may find it fun and go ahead and do it themselves. Also, other television shows make it seem as if lying to your parents is fine. Because of that, more teenagers have developed a habit in lying to their parents which in the end causes them to lose their parents trust. As you can see, television can be a negative influence.
