This paper will examine the psychology of a pedophile. Pedophiles are everywhere around the world. Predators often lead double lives, maintaining "socially responsible behavior in public". (Salter, 2013) The research will show that in most cases, pedophiles never change and always have an attraction for children. These are predators might be living next door to you, and you never knew. A pedophile will victimize 50 to 150 children before being caught. (Salter, 2013) Interesting facts will be presented through this essay. The research will prove that people are either born with this disorder, it can be brought on through trauma as an adolescent such as sexual abuse. This research paper will investigate "what makes a pedophile, can they be cured?"

What causes pedophilia? No one decides “I am going to grow up and be a child pedophile.” The research shows that it does run in families. Children that were molested when they were young some grow up and become pedophiles. Pedophilia is an illness that is caused by abnormal brain chemistry with strong genetic connections. There is no cure for pedophilia, but there is treatment (www.webmd.com). According to a study by Abel in 1987, report in the journal of interpersonal violence, 2(1), 3-25, “offenders against female children hand an average of 19 victims, while those against male children had an average of 50.

Pedophilia is a psychosexual disorder in which an adult wants children. Mental health professionals state it is a mental disorder and the courts say it is a criminal act. Pedophiles preferences can vary from one to the other. There is not a topical pedophile. They are young, old, male, or female. Research shows that pedophiles usually do not choose strange children as their victims; rather they choose children they know.
