Current Process

The current process for the company concerning health and safety is as follows;

  1. They have an extensive health and safety pack which contains all the relevant health and safety policies pertaining to the nature of their business.
  2. All new employees are given the policies to read and sign during orientation, in to the company. They also receive WHMIS, fall arrest and any other necessary training at this time.
  3. Before the start of any job the owner, Phillip and his Supervisor Ciaran, carry out a full health and safety check of the worksite. This is to ensure that the buildings are structurally sound and there is no great risk to the employees. As they carry out these inspections, they are supposed to fill out the relevant checklist however; this process is not being completed.
  4. When the building or area have been deemed safe, a safety station is set up with all the relevant information attached, for example; emergency numbers i.e. Police, Fire fighters, Gas Company, Hydro and Water as well as relevant policies. The safety station also houses a fire extinguisher, eye wash station and first aid kit.
  5. All employees are given orientation to the safety station before work begins, and are made aware of the location of other policies and information pertaining to WSIB, Health and safety at work and any building permits that are necessary.[1]
  6. Presently, the health and safety training at is carried out by Philip, as he has a lot of experience and knowledge in this area.
  7. All checks on equipment and machinery are carried out daily by the employees using them. However, these checks are also not documented.
  8. If any first aid treatment is needed it is carried out by Philip, as he has been trained and certified by St Johns Ambulance.[2]
