Business Writing

One difference between academic writing and business writing is audience. I can demonstrate this through the analysis of formatting and word choice

The audience plays a very significant role in academic writing and business writing and obvious they are totally different. They both are focus on specific group. For example, the chef in restaurant cook for public customer, once each of them come in the restaurant and order something, then the main chef is responsible to cook for them because they’re customer. By the opposite, parents cook only for their children at home instead of public people. It is more likely to distinguish with academic writing and business writing. Business writing more looks like parents cook at home only for their kids, while the academic writing more seems like chef cook at restaurant for public customer.

The format is the key diverse between business writing and academic writing. The business writing more concentrate on precise language and are supposed to be used to easy to communicate with readers. It developed with instances and details in business writing, but there must not be too much irrelevant and extra words. For example, the formal style in academic writing: “The kid dropped out school which caused him to cannot look for a job.” The informal style in business writing: “I think the kid is awful.” Normally academic writing uses the third person and indicate facts, while the business writing more likely to use first person and give own opinions.

Academic word choice is more abstract and formal through the third person perspective focus on facts and issues rather than the writer’s opinion. However, business word choice has totally different with academic writing. Business word choice is more details to express the writer’s opinion. Apparently the formatting is extremely different between business writing and academic writing as well. Academic writing can be used in a variety of forms with characteristics, explanations and examples, such as reports, conference paper, thesis, essay, research article etc. Moreover, the business writing is more about clearing and professional.
