As requested, I have completed a through analysis of Bombardier Incorporated. I am confident that you will be impressed with this company’s financials not to mention their performance history, and will have the desire to commence an investment with them. Bombardier Inc has been, and continues to be, a successful investment opportunity because of Porter’s Five Forces and competitive advantage.

Bombardier Inc. is a nationally traded company with unlimited potential. They are leading innovators in areas such as: locomotive, aircraft and recreational vehicles. For Bombardier, being on the leading edge of these innovations is paramount. They continuously update and refine their development of these products to maintain their competitive edge (Marotte, 2010). The Wilfrid Laurier Introduction to Understanding and Assessing the Business Environment textbook says, “a 2009 study by the Conference Board of Canada showed that deregulation […] caused a sharp increase in productivity in sectors like freight and airlines” (Pearson Learning Solutions, 2011).

PORTER’S FIVE FORCES

Bombardier Inc. successfully utilizes all of Porter’s Five Forces because of their impact on substitutes, potential entrants and suppliers/buyers. They have an impact on substitutes because there are no alternatives that maintain all areas of focus that Bombardier Inc. does. Bombardier also has the ability to dictate the prices that they purchase the goods (from suppliers) and who they sell too (buyers). This gives Bombardier Inc. the ability to achieve maximum financial performance due to obtaining bargaining power. Not only do they have good buyers, but also Bombardier Inc. was “named worldwide supplier of the year” (Samuel, 2011).
