Topic: Inventors that Changed the World

Objective: 
- Students will gather information of a certain inventor given by the teacher

 - Students will use the internet to find information

- Students will present information to the classroom

Standards:

Prerequisite skills needed in relation to this objective:

-Students have prior knowledge about a few inventors such as: Alexander Bell, Thomas Edison and Lewis Latimer.  

-Students will have prior knowledge how to search on the classroom computer for educational material

-Students will know how to print off the computer specific information to use for research

Prerequisite skills the student currently does/does not have:

-Student knows how to get on the computer and get to information on the web with assistance

-Student knows how to print material off the computer to use for research

-Students lacks the skills to take information printed and turn it into a research paper

-Students have trouble finding the words to search for specific subjects to gain knowledge

-Student is very creative and have the ability to complete a project with some help 


Purpose:
 

The purpose of this lesion is to introduce different inventors and how they have changed the way we live today. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of their person and invention given. They will also so essential writing skills in a short essay. This essay will have the information collected from online written in their own words. Students will show their ability to use a computer and print off material needed to complete each project.

Materials:
List materials students will need:

  • Worksheets
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Class Computer
  • projector screen
  • white board


III. Procedure
A. Anticipatory Set: 

  • Remind the students of the inventions they have studied or used earlier in the year such as i-pad, computer. Pencil sharpener, eraser etc.
  • Ask the class to raise their hands to contribute to a discussion of what they already know about different inventions they use on a daily basis at home and at school. Write a list on the blackboard of the inventions they name, while prompting them and offering ideas and comments as needed. Point out how each invention can be used in a home as well as the school setting and how they are different.
  • Tell the children that it is important to learn about inventors and inventions because they have shaped the way we live in our society today and that one day the can become engineers and inventors themselves and change or make something new for society that everyone will use.


B. Body of the Lesson/Input:

“Scientist have shaped the way we use different inventions to make the way we do a task easier. These inventions can be seed around the world around us. Let’s take a closer look at the many different inventions and how they have changed the way we complete a task. Can someone give an example of an inventions in this room? (Guiding Questions) Teacher listens to student’s comments. Teacher will right what the students say up on the board. Now what investors have we already learned about? “Great we’re on the right track to understanding different inventions we use daily.” Teacher reads students objective and expectations to further focus student’s attention on the objective, and begins explain the objective. Teacher should pause to answer student’s questions during instruction.
