In my opinion, the Whole Foods emphasis on teamwork is appropriate for the grocery store industry. In grocery store industry, employees’ job is making the products. If make employees in teams by departments, the employees in the same department has the same work to do and achieve the same goal, if some one in the team didn’t work well, others in the team need to do more work to achieve the goal. There will be a mutual supervision among each other in the team, its good for the work efficiency in the team. And also the result of the team competitions determine employee bonuses, recognition, and promotions is a good motivation system to make employees to work positively, it will also increase the efficiency to the grocery store.
- What is your opinion of Whole Foods practice of sharing team performance data with all company employees? Do you believe that this practice risks creating “too competitive” a spirit among the firms employees? Explain your answer
Sharing team performance date with all company employees is a good way to encourage teams members to do better and see the difference with other teams. The teams in the top will be proud of themselves and keep up the good work, the teams at the bottom will say to themselves to work better to be the top.
The competitive will make firms employees to be tension for sure. The teams in the top wish to be in the top to get the bonuses, recognition and promotions, the teams at the bottom will get pressure to make themselves to work hard to get the top scores. The team will be afraid of to be at the bottom for a long time that will make them to be dismissed from the company.
- Would you enjoy working on a team at Whole Foods? Why or Why not?
I would enjoy working on a team at whole Foods because working on a team at whole Foods will give myself a power to work hard and employees in team will supervise each other and help each other to be working well. In a team to have the same goal and work for it, that will be a good working experience.
