Gaining Group Participation

There are numerous dimensions of team success, but cohesion, learning, integration, productivity, and efficiency are often considered the most important measures. One of the biggest failures of leaders in terms of teamwork is the failure to account for threats to team performance. One of the most effective ways to achieve success is to take a proactive approach and analyze essential conditions affecting team performance (Thompson, 2011, pp. 36-37). Facilitation at its best is “the design and management of structures and processes that help a group do its work and minimize the common problems people have working together” (Means & Adams, 2005, p. 25). Good facilitation requires planning, flexibility, objectivity, good communication skills, and patience.

Teamwork is a means through which organizations and groups within a setting use to increase the performance of individuals. Teams within a company create a sense of belonging. This improves the level of responsibility an employee takes when working alone without supervision. In forming teams, many things are put in place. These ensure that an individual member of a team has a sense of ownership to a company or to teams in which he or she is member. Participation in newly established teams may be motivated by different things from those in already established ones. This is because as team members continue to grow together, they familiarize with each other and can work together with ease. Teams require communications and leadership so that they can continue to work together. When team members work towards a common goal, they are able to achieve much as compared to individuals in their different capacities. The content analysis of this assignment will describe what things are required by newly formed teams to promote participation and things that cause active participation of already formed teams.

Commitment promotes willingness of people to contribute ideas on how they can do a task. This ensures that each of the team members can suggest methods to perform a task and then all are scrutinized to come up with one that will best suit the group (Thompson, 2011).

Another thing that can promote participation in a newly formed team is setting goals and a vision. Members of a team will realize that they have a goal they will need to accomplish to go ahead. This will drive them to participate always. In participating in a team a vision should be stated clearly so that all members will be able to direct their efforts to accomplish their long-term goals. For that reason, a person will take responsibility to act on things they have agreed together. Goals and a clear vision ensure that a person will be committed each day to move to a place higher than they were when they started (Thompson, 2011).
