The Local Licensing Framework in Singapore

In Singapore, all the establishments, companies, other business that are planning to sell liquor or offer for sale intoxicating liquors by retail sale or wholesale are required to get or apply a license from the Liquors Licensing Board (LLB).

Liquor licenses are issued and valid for 2 years. The liquor license commencement date to be indicated in the application form is limited between 14 and 90 days, from the date of application submission. The stated minimum number of days is to allow for the Liquors Licensing Unit adequate time to process the application.

The payment can be made once the license is approved. There are 3 online payment modes available. The payment can be by using Credit card (Visa or Mastercard), Direct Debit through internet banking account or FlexiPay (GIRO-On-Demand). And it can also be made by cash, NETS or cheque.

There are two categories of licenses that Liquor Licensing Board issued. First is for the retail sale of intoxicating liquor to consume on the premises. And the second one is for the retail or wholesale of intoxicating liquor to consume off the premises.

The four main types of license

* Public house license is for the sale of all types of liquor for consumption on the premises. ( inclusive of beer and stout)

* Beer house license is for the sale of only beer and stout for consumption on the premises.
