Reflective Report

Gulf Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in the country, known for quality health care services at affordable prices. Through this case study, I have found out several problems that the Gulf Hospital are facing. The first problem the hospital is facing is the impatience of some nurses, their lack of co-operation and their lack of relevant experience. In fact, the nurses have been accused of creating a bad atmosphere in some departments due to their inability to get along with each other.  Being a nurse in a hospital, it is a must that every nurse is required to have patience, co-operation and experience. If nurses in the hospital are serving the patients without these requirements, they can’t perform well in their working performance. These problems are linked with Chapter 2 under the title of Job analysis, which includes Job Description and Job Specification. The reason why Gulf Hospital has these problems is because they had hired the wrong candidate. This means that the hospital hired a candidate that did not fulfilled the requirement with the Job Description and Job Specification that needed to be a nurse. In addition, it also can link with Chapter 5 under the title of Interview Content. Under Interview Content, there are 4 types of interview which is Situational Interview, Behavioral interview, Job-Related interview and Stress interview. Gulf Hospital did not use these types of interview to hire the suitable candidates, therefore it have caused a problem in the hospital now. In my opinion, I suggest that the hospital should conduct panel interview and ask them question about behavioral questions as this question can help to know what they did or their reaction when comes to a situation.

Other than that, I have found happens in Gulf Hospital is the turnover rate for nurse. The turnover rate has been increasing over the last 2 years which lead to 20% of turnover rate now. Nurses can’t get along with each other and they have no patience for this job, and some of them are lacking of experience, most importantly is they could not co-operate with each other well. These might be the reason why nurses have decided to resign instead of staying at the hospital. Due to the turnover rate had increased, the current plan to enlarge to Pediatrics department, there is a need to recruit and select 25 new nurses over the next few months. This happen in the hospital is because the HR director did not test the candidate’s personality to know whether they are required to be a nurse or not, this test is linked to Chapter 4 under the title of ‘The Big Five’. ‘The Big Five’ will normally be tested on candidates. The main reason for this test is to know more about the characteristic of the candidates.
