        Debating is when someone “talks or argues about something or to talk about something at length and in detail, especially as part of a formal exchange of opinion.  (bing.com)” When referring to group debates it just involves two groups of people discussing something.  Now as with everything, there are defiantly benefits and disadvantages to this form of debating and I believe that having group debates can be beneficial depending on the situation.

        There are several positive benefits of having group debates.  One of which is that group debates promotes positive peer support within the group.  This is because everyone within the group will be working towards a common goal on both sides of the argument. Working together with others in your group is also a benefit because work can be divided amongst everyone. Working together also helps with creative mindset of the group because when debating it is going to be imperative that they come up with great supporting details to their cause. Working together also creates an environment where peers can bounce ideas and comments off each other in order to create a solid case.

        With benefits, there are also disadvantages.  Now with people working closely together there are problems that arise because of differences in personalities and ideas.  Not everyone in the group may foster the same feelings and ideas concerning the issue that everyone is working on.  Which can cause issues with the progression of the case that everyone is working on.  So getting everyone to get and stay on the same page may become difficult.  Sometimes there can even be issues with communication amongst the group.
