DISCUSSION #3

I have to say I strongly agree with your decision that a written job description is a fantastic tool for a Human Resource Manager. The reason why I agree with your decision is that a job description can hold an employee accountable for his/her performance. The job description documents the duties, responsibilities, skills, competencies, and the education that is required in order to perform a job. A good job description will clearly explain the roles and responsibilities of the employee. It helps the Human Resource Manager evaluate the employee’s work distribution and organize the department properly. It also helps the HR Manager classify job and determine the proper pay ranges. A good job description establishes the basis for recruiting an employee and selecting the proper employee. It also helps the with performance evaluations.

According to Ferdinand Fournies in Why Don’t Employees Do What They’re Supposed to Do and What To Do, he says employees need to clearly understand their job description. The job description sets clear expectations for what you expect from the employees. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small or large business, a well-written job description lets the people you employ be aware of your goals and visions that you have for the success of your organization. A good job description also should cover all legal bases like EOE and ADA.

Therefore, based on all of the information regarding a good job description, I standby my initial response and continue to agree that a job description is a great tool and everyone from a receptionist to a CEO should have a well written job description.
