Leadership Final

As of right now I am 17 years old, in 10 years I will be 27 years old. Ten years from now seems like a long time, but I know it will come sooner than I think. Especially because I still remember when I was 7 years old, not thinking time was going to pass me by so quick, but here I am now. By the time I am 27 I will hopefully be pursuing my career of being a cardiac surgeon, I think I will still be in my residency years but maybe I can finish sooner. Ever since I was a little kid I told myself I was going to go in the medical field with no question. I want to be able to help others and impact peoples' life in a great way. My grandma had heart problems and a cardiac surgeon saved her life, therefore that's where I got the inspiration to help others.

I understand becoming a surgeon won't be easy, there will be many bumps in the road and a lot of adapting to do. Right now, I see myself as a transformational leader. Transformational leadership style depends on high levels of communication from to meet goals. Leaders motivate others and enhance productivity and efficiency through communication and high visibility. Leaders focus on the big picture within an organization and delegate smaller tasks to the team to accomplish goals. As a surgeon I want to continue to use this type of leadership because I will have lead my co-workers and motivate them and myself to perform to the best of our abilities.

A leadership style I also want to adapt is transactional leadership. Transactional leadership depends on self-motivated people who work well in a structured, directed environment. A transactional leader is someone who values order and structure. As a surgeon I have to be very structured in order to perform any surgeries. At this moment, I'm not very structured and organized. I could always improve this leadership because I feel like it would be vital to my leadership skills in order to succeed.

Over the next 10 years not only do I need to focus on my future but on my leadership

skills. I need to improve my transformational leadership skills and develop some transactional leadership skills to be the best leader I can
