  1. Company Background

Mindpro Citimall is the first and largest shopping mall in Zamboanga City, as well as the 4th largest shopping mall in Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines located at La Purisima St., Zamboanga City. The mall houses Mindpro Supermarket, 3-screen cinema, foodcourt, department store, and many branded stores and boutiques including Kodak Express, Bench, Penshoppe, Bobson, Guess, Crissa, Giordano, Oxygen, and Blues Brothers. Others include Jollibee (the second in Zamboanga), Greenwich Pizza (the first in Zamboanga), David's Salon (first in Zamboanga), Dunkin' Donuts (opened in 1996).

Mindpro Citimall is owned and operated by Mindpro Inc, a family corporation based in Zamboanga City. The mall, which was at a location that was used to be Jingyong Bowling and Mindpro Lumberyard, started in early 1992. The historic opening of the shopping mall was on December 7, 1996. The cinemas, originally three, were opened in February 1997. Mindpro Citimall has been the site of regional entertainment events, trade fairs, and exhibits.

The Mindpro Citimall Cinemas were originally opened as a three-screen multiplex circa 1995. Each of the three screen areas has since been split into a further two screens making six screens in total. The multiplex now advertises itself as being three cinemas each with two screens. The six screens were in each case formed by separating the balcony areas from the stalls area of the former three-screen complex. Cinema One seats 1,000, Cinema Two seats 1,036 and Cinema 3 seats 957.

  1. Status Quo

The company currently uses three accounting systems for the different business units of their establishment. Quickbooks is used for the cinema, bakery and shopping mall units, OPOS is used as the inventory system and personally designed Accounting Information System (AIS) by management is used for the supermarket business unit.

QuickBooks is an accounting software package developed and marketed by Intuit. Quickbooks products are geared mainly toward small and medium-sized businesses, where Mindpro Citimall is categorized, and offer on-premise accounting applications as well as cloud based versions that accept business payments, manage and pay bills, and payroll functions.

OPOS, on the other hand, is short for OLE for POS, a platform specific implementation of UnifiedPOS, is a point of sale device standard for Microsoft Windows operating systems that was initiated by Microsoft, NCR, Epson, and Fujitsu-ICL and is managed by the Association for Retail Technology Standards. OPOS uses COM technology and is therefore language independent. This means POS developers can base their products on their choice of programming language and still program to a standard.  The first OPOS technical meeting was convened in January 1995. The first production release, 1.01, was made in March 1996. Its seventh release, 1.6, was in July 2001.
