INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES

3.1        Introduction

Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB) or in short, Kota Buku (Malaysian Book City) was officially established on July 6, 2011. Kota Buku is a Government Linked Company (GLC) that stands on its own under the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Kota Buku operates in Level 24, Maju Tower, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Kota Buku was inspired by National Book Policy (NBP) that functions to develop so called as “Book Centre” whereby Kota Buku act as a One Stop Centre for book and publishing activities for readers, writers, publishers especially to accommodate meetings and networking for various related activities.

Kota Buku focused on children’s literature, E-Book, copyright and trade, providing seminar, course and training that relates with the industry and ‘pengajian ilmiyyah’.  The objective of Kota Buku is to become the nation’s book industry nucleus and the centre of the nation’s book activities and exhibitions. Despite that, Kota Buku also aims to be the reference centre for the book industry and provide a meeting centre for various commercial and business activities apart from to be an exhibition and business ground for local and imported books in book industry.

Kota Buku has a total of 30 people working in the company. Encik Sayed Munawar Bin Sayed Mustar appointed as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Perbadanan Kota Buku. There are three main departments in Kota Buku which are Finance and Admistration under the supervision of Encik Razin Abd Rahman, Social Business Venture and Trade Department and Intellectual Property, Digital Initiative, Research and Consultancy Department (HIPP). (See Appendix 1 for the brief idea on the organization chart). The overall management of Kota Buku led by YBhg. Tan Sri Abd. Ghafar Bin Mahmud, Chairman of Kota Buku. It is also supported with the presence of the Board of Directors that mainly came from the book industry. (See Appendix 2 for the list of Kota Buku’s Board of Directors).

3.2        Objectives

Semester six students are required to complete their final semester subject by undergo to practical training as it is a requirement before graduating. The early exposure provided gives students to be familiarized with the working environment apart from to develop people that capable to succeed in academic and working life in the future.

The practical training aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To connect the academic side of the student of the Communication and Media Studies Faculty with the practical methodology.
  2. Help students to understand the work mechanism in the society institutions and give practical experience and appropriate training in student’s specialization.  
  3. To exercise the administrative, leadership and specialized skills learnt in university at the work fields.
  4. Obtain feedback to develop the educational plans and courses which suit with local reality.
  5. Build connection of communication between the university and student on the other hand between the governmental and private institutions.
  6. Stabilize the values and concepts related to the knowledge and work.

MAIN REPORT

4.0        Overview

For the past five months attached in Perbadanan Kota Buku for the industrial training, I have been given several job and tasks related to the subject field in the university. I have been placed under Corporate Communication division. In this section, a brief explanation will be discuss more on the jobs duties and responsibilities and other elements while performing in Perbadanan Kota Buku. All the tasks given are mostly related to interpersonal communication and I am completely applied the interpersonal skills that have been taught while at the university.
