Trying to get an Answer

Being born in the neighborhood where there is no fence between houses, and parents did not have a total control on their teenager’s daily activities, make me became friend in 1982 with three young kids which whom I was playing soccer on the pathway every evening after school. Curiously, one of my friends names Edson, who was very agitate, had a disturbing habit of holing the ball, then stop the game and hilariously request two goals in advance if the other team would like to continue the game. This practice was something strange for those who only played soccer with him. In addition, when we were going to school, he always collects papers on the alleyway and explain to me that most important knowledge are on those papers that nobody has any attention. A close look on this mental illness demonstrate that multiple factors appear to be involved in the development of this moods disorders; some people inherit from a genetic predisposition, others suffering from biochemical issues, and the others from some stressful life events.

In many cases, bipolar disorder is hereditary because individuals with parents or sibling having this disorder are more prone to have this king of mental illness. Furthermore, twin studies have shown that major depression has a strong genetic component (Levinson, Psychology 2009; Kindler & others, 2006). Even though bipolar disorder is rarely diagnosed at the childhood, some evidence suggests that children who display unusually unstable moods are more likely to be diagnosed with bipolar in adulthood (Blader & Carlson, 2008). In the vast majority of cases, this major depression is characterized by a severely depressed mood lasting at least two weeks; symptoms include excessive self-criticism, guilt, difficulty concentrating, suicidal thoughts, sleep and appetite disturbances, and lethargy (Psychology, p571). To illustrate, novelist Ernest Heming-way, and poet Sylvia Plath all suffered from severe bouts of depression throughout their lives.
