Summary

The president of Bassetts’ Ice Cream went to a routine seminar that turned to an international business deal with China. Because of this demand and other US dairy products, there has been an increase in demand. However, processed dairy has been relatively expensive for numerous years, but thanks to China’s business, it has been cutting cost. Sun Gongyun saw the value in ice cream and eventually switched to Bassetts’ Ice Cream. With all of the success, Bassetts is testing other flavors China may like as well. This celebration food is increasing in China, and the president who went to this meeting could not be happier about the outcome of one simple meeting. He is now importing to other foreign markets as well, such as Taiwan and India.

Free Markets

As we can see in this example, there is the idea of free markets in the article. Although this is not necessarily a domestic transaction, the idea of building one’s dream business is why this success happened. One person took the opportunity that is available in the free market system, built a business, and is now going international with it. Not only the idea of making a voluntary business comes out of this, but also the article discussed supply and demand of the ice cream. There was a big increase in the demand of the ice cream, meaning that there would be an increase in the price due to a possible shortage in the ice cream. This is the most important part of the supply and demand analysis, so I will not go any further than that.

Freedom

There are a couple ways that this relates to freedom. Looking at the rights that we have, the idea of free association with other people, like the seminar the president went to, is really a gift in itself.
