by: Elmer Gabasa

“Save Mother Earth” is a simple line that plays a big role, but are we aware of this statement? Our actions are now threatening our mother Earth, the land we live and work on, the water supply, the ozone layer, the animal species as well as the health of our species. The problem is too big but what are we doing? Are we making a move to maintain the nature’s harmony that God gave us? Well, every one of us can make a difference. Let us start with making a commitment to ourselves to do few things about our environment.

Our planet is getting worse day by day, it is because of the global warming, that of course because of us humans. Solving this environmental problem is not easy, because it needs the contribution from all people around the world. We cannot always blame our government about the environmental damage in this world.

However, all of us have a responsibility and have to be knowledgeable on how to take care our environment. In making some small changes that we are doing daily, like economizing the use of our electricity, reducing carbon dioxide, and managing our waste, we can simply contribute to create a healthy environment. In buying an appliance we should choose the less energy consumed ones. If we want to use cooling we can open our window.

Second, is by reducing the carbon dioxide. We can achieve this by instead of riding a motorcycle to school, use a bicycle or by walking when your house is only a distance from your school. Because as we notice right now the road is full of pollution, that’s why many of us got sick.

Lastly, by managing our waste. In every road, you can see some wastes like plastics, cans, spoiled foods, etc. It is only a sign that we are not responsible in terms of managing our waste. So we can avoid this by segregating our waste thoroughly. Throw it in the appropriate trash can with its corresponding kind like biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
