The Huffman Trucking Company uses different operating systems at each of their offices and plants that are located within four states. A majority of the operating systems that are presently used are different versions of Microsoft Windows, but they are also using Mac systems in two states.

One of the systems that Huffman Trucking uses is Windows 3.x for their receptionists in their New Jersey and California locations. Since this system is older, the best idea for it to currently still being used is due to it being used for scheduling appointments, employee files, office hours, and a database of all of the Huffman Trucking addresses. Windows 3.x is used for the small tasks that a receptionist is required to do as part of her job description and supplying simple communication tasks.

In the New Jersey and California branches, their company has supplied their employees with the Windows 95 operating system. These systems are required to do all of the faxing, printing, and scanning of documents. This operating system is older but it works efficiently with the MS-DOS, 16-bit applications, and device drivers that are pre-loaded onto the system.

The accounting department that is housed in Missouri and Ohio locations use Windows 2000 Professional for tasks such as payroll, employee records, employee benefits, and keeps track of all of the shipments that go in and out of the warehouses.

I personally feel from a business perspective that the need of updating these systems is not necessary. The reason for this is because if the system is operating and performing as it should, there is no need to have an up to date database to perform the daily operations of the Huffman Trucking Company. Most companies need a larger type of database but since this company does not need extra leg work, they are managing their operations just fine with what they have.
