Era of Modern Technology

Introduction

Ever since the era of modern technology began, most people started to rely on its uses. A variety of modern gadgets and appliances were introduced to satisfy the specific needs of people. One of the most popular and useful modern technology today is the computer. Used by almost everyone, the computer is one of the most powerful innovations in human history (Mcguigan, 2003). Connected with the use of computers is the presence of the internet. Also known as the World Wide Web, the internet can provide almost everything a person needs to know. The internet gives a shot at a different world, breaks the barriers, helps a lot in updating and makes many things possible (Gamis, 2004). Using the internet, students nowadays mostly depend on the knowledge it provides. Facts, solutions and information about almost anything are now within reach for school purposes. The internet provides several opportunities for academia. However, with access to internet, most people do not go searching for lectures on Math and Physics. Rather, porno, games, movies, music videos, chat and other diversions are much more eagerly sought (Parker, 2010).

There were studies that have been done that assessed the preference of people with regard to internet. However, there were no studies conducted yet with regard to the preference of accountancy students, who are believed to be academically positive students particularly in De La Salle University – Dasmariñas.

Objectives

This paper presented the preference of third year Accountancy students in De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, 1st Semester, S.Y. 2011-2012 with regard to internet sites. The researcher included the amount of time the students use the internet and the reasons on why they use it. Moreover, this study also would assess the demand of the respondents concerning computer and internet usage. Specifically, this paper sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the most visited site of Accountancy students in DLSU-D?

2. What is the reason behind such preference?

Importance of the Study

Any other study would not have been conducted with no purpose at all. The purpose in a study is the one that guides the whole research through its accomplishment. Throughout the study, the researcher aims to seek knowledge of the opinions of Accountancy students with regard to their preference in internet sites. The youth are the first to use the internet (Kabayan, 2000) and so researching through the top sites visited by them would contribute a lot in determining its effect.
