Sports Fans

Sports fans, they come out in numbers, face painted the color of their teams, pockets filled ready to quench the brewing thirst for victory or soften the blow of a loss. T-shirts with their favorite players and a endless supply of chants for their opposition. Whether it is football, baseball, basketball, cricket, whatever sport you enjoy, they are many different types of sport fans. They are the Traditionalist, the Pessimist, the Optimist, the Wannabe fans and of course the Diehard fans. Which category do you fall into?

The traditionalist is the guy who boasts for his own team but doesn’t get too wild or crazy. He watches the game on TV and reads the newspaper to get informed on what’s trending in the sport. At the game he notices many complexities that may be loss by the common fan however his life does not revolve around his team. If you don’t fall into any of the other classes, you are a traditionalist.

The pessimist fan would spend all game predicting something terrible will happen long before his team is doomed. You defiantly don’t want to be around this type of fan, he is annoying and he will irritate everyone by coming up with negative scenarios on what’s about to happen. When all is said and done his complaining becomes background noise. This will continue until one of the other fans threatens to kick this person ass if he doesn’t shut the hell up. The Heats would be up by 18 and LeBron James has 20 points in the fourth quarter. He goes for the three pointer and misses. “Lebron James suck, he’s a loser, how could you miss an easy open jumpers like that. They should cut him, he talks too much and can’t perform.” This is just an example of how a pessimist fan would react and I can’t say this conversation actually happened but I have heard this many times in the basketball arena.

Sport fans love to complain, why? Because it’s fun that’s why. The optimist hates fun. He is always thinking about the game from a logical point of view. A guy might be 0 for 30 but the optimist thinks this is great, “today is his day, and it’s his time to shine”. “He’s due now, and when he hits he will probably shred, it’s the law of averages.” Yes, the law of averages is a systematically correct mathematical formula (something I wouldn’t know) but that that not what I want to hear. I want to hear you complain and suggest his replacement. And no Mr. Optimist we just can’t sit and be content with how the team is going. We will complain until
