Each year 88 million nonsmokers in the US breathe another person’s smoke. With this being said out of the 88 million people, 4600 people die from lung cancer caused by breathing in second hand smoke(Exposer from Secondhand Smoke). Smoking is your choice, but you should not be able to make other people suffer because of your actions. If you’re going to do it, do not do it in public you, some people could have really bad asthma and you're standing right next to them making them sick and suffer. Why should it be legal for smokers to kill people just because they are addicted?

Second hand smoke is dangerous to anyone who breathes it. As adults and children are breathing in second hand smoke, it could be causing numerous health problems in children and adults. Adults who breathe in second smoke can suffer in many ways, but the two main sicknesses caused by secondhand smoke include lung cancer and heart attack. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said, “Secondhand smoke causes an estimated 46,000 premature deaths from heart disease each year in the United States among nonsmokers (Smoking and Tabaco Use). Second hand smoke can cause Lung Cancer in adults who have never smoked ever. Lung cancer causes on average 3,400 deaths in U.S non-smokers. (Smoking and Tabaco Use).

Secondhand smoke does not just affect adults, it also affects children. Americans for non-smoking rights states, “Secondhand smoke exposure causes children who already have asthma to experience more frequent and severe attacks (Heath Effects of Second hand smoke). Children that breathe in second hand smoke are more likely to get ear infections, respiratory symptoms, which include coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath, respiratory infections that are more likely to cause bronchitis, pneumonia, it also is a greater risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Second hand smoke does not only affect people it has a major affect on our environment. After people finish a cigarette, there is still a butt left. So what do you think the person does with the left over butt? They throw it out of the window or just throw it on the ground. An estimated 42.1 million adults over the age of 18 smoke cigarettes in the US. Tobacco Free CA states that, ”Cigarette butts are the most common toxic waste found in cleanups and the number one item found on California highways. And contrary to popular belief, they do not decompose completely” (Cigarette Butts). Butts have a toxin in them that is a threat to our aquatic ecosystem. Cigarette as also a major cause for global warming, the toxins in the smoke that a smoker exhales are very dangerous to the environment.
