Health issues in invasion of Iraq (Traumatic Brain Injury)

After the terrorist attack on the U.S. on 9/11, America waged war against terror. The years that proceeded marked audacious steps by American troops against stronghold terrorist states and their allies. U.S soldiers invaded Iraq in 2003 to restore order to the Middle East region, and the armed forces have since set base (Gillard 12). A considerable number of the soldiers are nevertheless coming home physically and psychologically wounded. A massive percentage of soldiers are suffering from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). Over the past years, Americans have been murdered and about 50,000 soldiers wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. War veterans are suffering from the war-related effects with some being suicidal, and combatants and more ex-soldiers from Iraq are registering increased death rates. The government needs to address the issue of TBI and its effects on war veterans.

Traumatic Brain Injury

It refers to the abrupt or sudden brain trauma. The trauma can be both severe and mild leading to a person's incapability to function. Nevertheless, a mild TBI can lead to problems such as imbalance, sleeping problems, hearing, and memory problems. The person becomes over dependent on others in fundamental functions like walking. In a severe case, the phenomenon can lead to disability and finally death. This disorder has been a challenge to many veterans; however, there is current diagnosis for veterans in military health facilities. These facilities include Walter Reed medical Centre, west Orange Hospital and other military rehabilitation centers. In addition, there are private hospitals providing rehabilitation and treatment services for these veterans.

Causes of TBI among soldiers

Most of the soldiers during war survive suicide bombings, grenade attacks, and roadside explosions. Most of the troops succumb to TBI during the explosion and other attacks and in many happenings after such attacks, the ripple impact of shockwaves on the brain of soldiers are damaging (Champion 1468).
